The Playa Viva Experience
With direct flights from Los Angeles, San Francisco, Dallas, Houston, Phoenix, Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal, and major Mexican cities to Zihuatanejo - Ixtapa International Airport (ZIH), you could be oceanside, enjoying a farm-to-table lunch by 2 pm.
Our all-inclusive philosophy is based on allowing guests to immerse themselves in the luxury of nature and engage with our community, all while not having to worry about hidden extras such as water and snacks. We believe this philosophy is paramount to the hotel’s sense of place and is why, time after time, guests tell us that Playa Viva feels like their own, unique home on the wild Pacific Coast.
Stays include accommodations, daily meals, wellness programming, beach access, and opportunities to engage with Playa Viva's regenerative initiatives.
Base rate includes:
- Airport ground transport between Playa Viva and Zihuatanejo-Ixtapa International Airport (ZIH) for bookings of 3 or more nights.
- All meals and snacks.
- All regular beverages (excluding alcohol, smoothies, and organic fresh coconuts).
- Daily morning yoga classes (normally 6 days a week).
- Access to miles of undisturbed beach.
- Visits to the turtle sanctuary
- Baby turtle releases (based on nature; $15 USD suggested donation).
- Taxes, tips, and 2% Regenerative Trust fee
Every guest contributes to our regenerative efforts as a 2% Regenerative Trust fee is added per night of booking, which supports our ReSiMar - Watershed Regeneration Projects. Guests get to enjoy “all of the luxury with none of the guilt”, knowing that each stay helps fund conservation, environmental education, sea turtle protection, regenerative agriculture, community development, and watershed restoration projects. Beyond our watershed development projects, the hotel’s operational model is regenerative by nature. We are 100% off-grid, run completely on solar power, monitor water, waste, and source hyper locally.

Notes from the farm: As the hotel winds down for the season, the farm heads into one of its busiest periods. Playa Viva’s Food as Medicine concept begins with soil. Before Chef Jesus and the kitchen team get their hands on the nutrient-rich produce to transform into healthy Mexican deliciousness, the Gente Viva farm team is preparing for months.
“We know this soil in the same ways the elders of this community know when the rains are arriving. We have spent the last 7 years feeding it, and we know this is the season where it will nourish us back with a diversity of color and flavor.” Amanda Harris, director of Gente Viva. It's not just about physically immersing people in nature, it's about showcasing natural materials, seeing food as medicine, allowing nature to be the focal point and commiting to protecting all the beauty that surrounds you.
Our outdoor showers are an excellent example of this commitment. Fallen tree trunks from the property, which would generally be seen as organic waste are given a new life, branches are chopped to make handles and hooks and the space is encased in bamboo. So not only is the water falling from a natural material, you are only touching natural materials to change the water temperature and you are only seeing a nature. Oh and that hot water, it's heated by the sun! That's what we mean by immersion in the luxury of nature 🦋

While that means we must wait until next season to head out with the @whalesofguerrero Marine Biologists to help them with their conservation efforts. Luckily it does not mean the whales stop passing by and wowing guests on their journey North.

As guardians of the source of water in our watershed we have built a relationship with the Gutiérrez family over the last 17 years. Trips up to their beautiful farm to discuss how we could buy their single source, organic chocolate and cacao soon turned into a guest experience where the true depths of Mexican hospitality can be felt. Our team practically fight over who can accompany guests as their delicious tortillas are world (Juluchuca) renowned.

As an NGO, Whales of Guerrero is dedicated to tracking the habits and health of migrating whales and ensuring their safety as they pass by Guerrero. During the excursion guests actively help to record data, listen to whale songs and have the opportunity to learn about the last known locations of any whales they spot. High season means more turtle babies and more turtle Moms laying on our beach. Our guest, Scout, was lucky to come across a Mom laying her eggs on her morning walk as captured here. Larissa, our resident marine biologist and the @_latortugaviva_ camp manager, was alerted, and they safely relocated the eggs to the turtle camp.

What does that statement mean to you? From farming, to sourcing, to the water we use we are aiming to create a transformational wellness experience. Essentially treating food as medicine and approaching wellness from a regenerative perspective, considering all stakeholders from the origin of the watershed to the sea.
@ilhui is a biologist with an MSc in Biomaterials Engineering, specializing in the interaction between food molecules and the human body. She is the founder of @longevidadparatodos, a platform dedicated to promoting longevity and preventive health through science-based education. In one of our most recent blogs we asked her to provide insight into the best plants to nourish your body from the molecular to the cellular level. Featuring the plants that our Mujeres Viva Women's Cooperative process into nutrient-dense powders, teas, tinctures and jams.

Reflections on World Environment Day 2025. From farmlands to the schools across the watershed and onto the beach, we see it as our responsibility to protect the environment in this beautiful watershed and act as a necessary lab for community-led regeneration. The ReSiMar Watershed Regeneration 'lab' follows the flow of the river, from its source in the mountains down through ever growing communities to the lagoon on our beach that overflows seasonally into the ocean. We learnt early on that no action is too small but thinking about the bigger picture is essential. We cant maintain a healthy beach if things higher up in the watershed are not being managed. This realization led to what is now a deep rooted connection to the four communities within our watershed and the opportunity to drive change. As it stands Playa Viva is the main entity funding research and bringing in experts however, our goal is that, with NGO status and the help of additional funding and grants, individuals and communities will take ownership and grow the ReSiMar model outwards like a ripple throughout coastal Mexico and beyond.
