Jaya Lakshmi began leading kirtan and writing her own devotional songs in the early 1990′s shortly after receiving harinam initiation from Srila Govinda Maharaj, a great Vaisnava saint from West Bengal, India. She went on to create 4 solo chant albums on Sequoia Records as well as became the lead singer of the band Lost at Last. In 2010 she joined forces with Ananda Yogiji. In just over 6 years together, they have released 11 mantra albums on Sounds True, Spirit Voyage and independently. She is known for her authentic and deep devotional spirit as well as playing an important part in establishing kirtan and mantra music in the west.
A dedicated yogi, she has regularly practiced hatha-based yoga since 1996, and since 2010 has integrated Kundalini yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan into her practice. Her most influential teachers have been Kia Miller, Sianna Sherman and Janet Stone, for whom she often provides music for in their retreats and classes.
She has led yoga, chant and healing retreats internationally since 2013 with Ananda and now is excited to be co-leading with her dear friend Luna Marcus, co-founder of Luna and Larry's Coconut Bliss. The two of them together create a special nurturing space and magical alchemy for healing and transformation. They bring their many talents, sweet authenticity and years of dedication to health, wellness and spirit to this transformational 7 day retreat.
Inspired by her passion for healthy food, Luna Marcus co-founded Luna and Larry's Coconut Bliss in 2005, building it from humble beginnings in her home kitchen into the leading brand of nondairy ice cream available internationally. While running the company, Luna devoted herself to coalescing Coconut Bliss with the culture created through music and transformational festivals, especially focusing on kirtan and mantra music. From 2005 until the present, Luna has supported Jaya Lakshmi and other touring artists with harmony vocals, while also composing and leading her own chants with her band, Narayani. Since receiving her yoga teacher certification with Sianna Sherman in 2012, Luna has continued to be deeply nourished and rooted through her practices of alignment-based yoga, chanting, and Neelakantha meditation.
Luna holds a degree in Holistic Nutrition from Bastyr University, and training and certification in the Transformational Coaching Method, and has a private practice as a Transformational Health Coach. In addition, she has 15 years experience facilitating Solsara, which is a practice that supports people in being fully present and coming into open-hearted connection with one another (visit www.solsara.org for more info).
Her passions include mothering her 9-year-old son, Bija, exploring the emerging balance of Divine Feminine and Masculine, singing, yoga practice, outdoor play, making and eating chocolate, and learning every facet of love imaginable. She is thrilled to share over 12 years of creative synergy and sisterhood with Jaya Lakshmi, and to bring all the elements together to provide an inspiring, positive, and loving experience for all participants during their retreats.
