Every aspect of our operations goes beyond low-impact. We'll continue to update as environmental technology advances and our understanding of our environment grows. We will be building to the highest environmental standards, but NOT pursuing LEED Certification, as the Regenerative Standard goes beyond LEED in many ways.
"Playa Viva was a PERFECT destination for our honeymoon. The whole week we were saying, "I can't believe this. This is exactly what we had dreamed." Everything about it was great and we are continuing to rave to others: the location, the architecture, the food, the activities, and your OUTSTANDING staff. We loved getting to know Johnny, Julia, and Aavi throughout the week; beautiful people. We also love the philosophy behind the place: locally grown food, local workers, and supporting local farms (the family up in the mountains). All of which are near to our hearts. Thank you for everything!"
All aspects of resort operations are being designed to go beyond low-impact and will be continually updated as environmental technology advances as well as our understanding of how to live and interact with the place. Our buildings will be built to the highest environmental standards and in the process we have decided NOT to pursue accreditation under the LEED standards, given that our building process goes beyond the LEED standard. Activities in this area include:
Open air design that strengthens connection to ecosystem and provides natural air exchanges at all times.
Edible landscape of organic gardens provide beauty and nourishment.
Construction materials used from locally harvested woods (renewable), wall coverings made from local clay (local pigments) and design elements from local craftsmen.
100% off-grid solar with the exception of gas for cooking and for refrigeration.
Waste materials which will be repurposed into organic matter for the Playa Viva permaculture farm.
Playa Viva marine and land adventures will be conservation driven.
Teselated building design create natural air conditioning.
Natural and local products will be used in building, maintenance and cleaning.
Alternate energy, such as renewable wind power and use of biodiesel will be leveraged where possible.
Buildings will be oriented and designed for passive cooling and maximize airflow.
Bio-Diesel production on site from used vegetable oil to power guest transportation vehicle.
Guest soaps created from bio-diesel by-product, glycerine, used in all rooms along with organic bio-degradeable shampoos.
Regeneration goes beyond LEED, beyond sustainable, it is about constantly making the whole place better, the living systems stronger and entire ecology more resilient.
