Action and Adventure
With close to 85% of the property as a private reserve, we have a huge wild space to explore. You'll get to enjoy horseback rides along the beach, head off on a deep sea fishing adventure or scuba diving excursion, or just explore the local flora and fauna on one of our many marked trails. Or just grab a ball and strike up a game of soccer, volleyball or football.

"We could not have imagined a better vacation for ourselves and two 16 year olds girls. My daughter came home from her first day back at school yesterday, looked around and said "everything seems so pointless if you can't go to the beach." I think she was responding to the deep sense of purpose and commitment that is so present at playa viva. We were fortunate enough to be part of the release of 67 just hatched baby turtles to the sea. (LIterally be part of, hold them in our hands!) It was a connection to the greater scale of life that is ever present in the world, but that we generally perceive only superficially. Yes, it's an incredibly beautiful, peaceful, quiet place with the most welcoming staff and community one can imagine. Yes it has delicious food served in a lovely outdoor setting with pride and graciousness. Yes, its right on the ocean, with cool breezes and an open feeling that is immediately restorative. But in addition, it is a place that is actively involved in doing something important and something good for the guests, the community and the land. We weren't even to the airport when we each were wondering how we could come back."

Surfing & Water Sports
Playa Viva offers some of the best surf on Mexico's Pacific Coast, for novice, intermediate and top surfers. Local surfing instructors welcome all skill levels. Breaks include Escolleras, Playa Linda, La Saladita, the Ranch, Mahajua, Troncones, Playa Manzanillo, Juluchuca, La Barrita and Las Gatas, all within a one-hour drive. Playa Viva is adjacent to Playa Icacos, one of the only locations in Mexico where top surfers can catch one of the few pipelines in all of Mexico.

Snorkeling, Scuba, Spear Fishing
Snorkeling and scuba diving is available through a local tour operator in Zihuatanejo. You can also snorkel in the ocean right in front of Playa Viva and see lots of sea life, however it is open ocean so swim with a buddy. As a special bonus, we can pair you with a local spear fisherman who can teach you how to catch your dinner.  Read More

Kayaking or "Panga"
Immerse yourself in nature by taking a small group or private kayak tours in one of the many lagoons near Playa Viva. The state of Guerrero, Mexico, is home to thousands of waterfowl and migratory birds. At Playa Viva, we work with local fisherman who can take you out on their "panga", small boats, for a tour of the estuary, a great way to see birds, amphibians, mangrove and gain a new perspective on Playa Viva.

Horseback Riding
Horses will be available on site at Playa Viva. The horses will be clean, well fed and very tame with western saddles and bridles. We partner with local farmers to provide their horses for riding. One pony is available for kids. Playa Viva has a horse on site available too.

Excursions
Whether it's surfing, shopping or seeking arts and entertainment, we have lots of transport and guide options to host you on whatever tour strikes your fancy.
