Getting Here
Playa Viva is a convenient 30-minute drive from Zihuatanejo/Ixtapa International Airport. We offer direct transportation via low-emission, bio-deisel-fueled van, or you can opt for a taxi or rental car at the airport.

Our Direct Connect
Playa Viva is located in Juluchuca, on the Pacific Coast of Mexico, in the State of Guerrero, about 30 minutes south of Zihuatanejo / Ixtapa International Airport (ZIH). ZIH Airport is served by over 82 direct flights per week with half the flights from Mexico City (1 hour) and the other half non-stop flights from major North American airports including San Francisco (4.5 hours), Los Angeles (3.5 hours), Denver (4 hours), Houston (2.5 hours), Minneapolis (5 hours), Phoenix (3 hours), and Toronto (5.5 hours).

As a property owner at Playa Viva, you'll receive complementary airport transport in one of our biodiesel-powered vans, which run on excess oil from our own coconut trees. However, if you chose to rent a car or take a taxi, the following are driving directions to Playa Viva:

From Airport:
  • Exit airport and head towards Zihuatanejo.
  • Take the first exit towards Acapulco.
  • In about 4 kilometers the road will end, and the Pemex station will be on your right.
  • Turn right and follow the road for approximately 30 kilometers towards Acapulco.
  • You will pass the towns of San Jeronimito and Petatlan.
  • Juluchuca is the town after Petatlan, about 7 kilometers down the road.
  • Take the first right after the Juluchuca bridge.
  • Once in Juluchuca, follow the signs to Playa Viva

From Zihuatanejo:
  • Go south on the main highway towards the airport.
  • Before you get to the airport follow Highway 95 (Coastal Highway) to Acapulco.
  • You will continue for about 5 kilometers where you'll reach a major intersection with a Pemex station.
  • Go straight, following the highway to Acapulco.
  • You will pass the towns of San Jeronimito and Petatlan.
  • Juluchuca is the town after Petatlan, about 7 kilometers down the road.
  • Take the first right after the Juluchuca bridge.
  • Once in Juluchuca, follow the signs to Playa Viva.

Taxis
Taxis from the airport are regulated and the prices are posted. A one-way trip to Juluchuca is approximately $60 for a small car and about $110 for an SUV.

Rental Car
Most major rental car agencies have stands in ZIH Airport, including Budget, Hertz, Avis and Dollar. You can book reservations directly with the agencies through their websites or toll free numbers in the US, Canada or Mexico. Prices range from $50 to $150 per day, depending on type of vehicle. Given the terrain at Playa Viva, we highly recommend a vehicle with four-wheel drive.

Geography
Juluchuca is nestled between the drama and beauty of the Sierra Madres and the sparkling waters of the Pacific Ocean. This unique location's proximity to natural wonders provides easy access to a host of activities -- from hiking to scuba diving to deep-sea fishing to bird watching and kayaking. It's all here waiting for you.

Playa Viva is located between two estuaries, one to the south created by the Juluchuca River and one to north by the Tuzal River. Playa Viva's soft sand beaches give rise to majestic dunes, which flatten into a mix of lush wetlands and palm groves. Beyond the swaying palms, the land rises approximately 30 meters. These hills are part of an archeological site that once formed the village of Xolochiuhyan, and served as agricultural terraces.

Climate
Playa Viva enjoys a year-round semi-tropical climate with approximately 300 sunny days a year and temperatures ranging from 23 to 33 degrees Celsius (73 to 93 degrees Fahrenheit). The rainy season lasts from late July through to late September or early October, with an average rainfall of 300 millimeters (12 inches) per month. During the rainy season, the surrounding countryside comes alive with verdant grasses and fragrant blossoms. Juluchuca transforms itself from a semi-arid zone into a tropical forest.
