Regenerate: A Winter Yoga Retreat in Mexico

Jennifer Steinwurtzel, leader of the Viva the New Year Yoga Retreat.
February 8-12, 2012

Join Santa Barbara yoga teacher, Jennifer Steinwurtzel, for five days of yoga, meditation and relaxation on one of Mexico's most pristine beaches. Step away from your daily life and step into the Playa Viva oasis where we will reflect, enjoy and celebrate our lives on and off the yoga mat. This retreat will regenerate you physically and spiritually sending you back home feeling rejuvenated, refreshed and even reheated.

The word "regenerate" means, "to form, to construct, to give new life or energy, to revitalize or to create anew, especially in an improved state." On this retreat, we will practice "regenerating" in all ways possible - from moving our bodies to realign ourselves in our daily yoga practices to eating all our meals from the onsite organic edible garden and spending time relaxing by the ocean and playing on the beach.

We will have two daily yoga classes giving you plenty of time to move deeper into your practice. By immersing yourself in this intensive and restorative environment, we will have the opportunity to explore the theme "regeneration" physically on the yoga mat as well as introducing and weaving in some of the basic philosophy of yoga. There will be ample time for relaxation on the beach, swimming in the ocean, hiking the 200 acres of private preserve or simply just being.

On one of the afternoons, there will be 2 optional excursions for an additional charge at time of registration: one option will be to travel into the town of Zihuatenejo for a look at the local crafts and shopping and the second will be a snorkel trip to a nearby beach. We will also have the opportunity to take a trip into Juluchuca, a local town. More information will be given to you at the time of registration.

About the Yoga Practices:
Our morning practice will be a vinyasa-based practice moving us to our edge and playing on themes of power, strength and heat. In the afternoons, we will balance the day with a cooling and restorative practice taking us deeper into longer held and supported poses. Yoga experience is highly recommended, although if you are interested and do not currently practice yoga, please contact Jennifer to see what can be worked out.

About Jennifer Steinwurtzel:
Jennifer is a celebrated yoga teacher who currently lives in Santa Barbara, California. She completed her 800 Hour Teacher Training in New York at the Jivamukti Yoga School with Sharon Gannon and David Life and has since then studied Vinyasa Flow with Seane Corn in Los Angeles and Ashtanga Yoga with various teachers in the US and abroad, including her trip to Mysore, India. She loves the Iyengar method and the Ashtanga Vinyasa method and instead of choosing one, she blends the two together for a challenging yet inward yoga practice. Her classes are physically as well as emotionally and spiritually demanding in that she asks each of her students to truly practice yoga - whatever that may mean for them in the moment.
