Title
Nature
We all need wild places to regenerate our souls. You'll feel a change in your spirit as you change into your beachwear. By the end of a week's stay you'll settle into the pace of nature - a pace where the best moments will be spent watching pelicans fly in formation over the sea, spying an iguana basking on a warm rock, and the daily ritual of toasting the sun as it sets over the ocean.

"Loved Playa Viva!!! The architecture, the food, the smiling help, the beach, the nature, the pool, the turtles. Loved also the caliber of people staying there as well. Felt like Tassajara!"

Turtle Sanctuary
At the southeast corner of Playa Viva, an all-volunteer staff, comprised of members of the local community, has set up a turtle sanctuary. These are fisherman and farmers who recognized the damage being done to the local turtle population and decided to make a difference. To make a donation click here.  Read More

Estuary Expedition
Hop in a flat-bottom boat and tour the estuary, gliding past mangroves, nests of cranes, and native wildlife. Or just grab your own kayak and venture off to explore the wonders of this tropical paradise on your own. Don't forget your fishing line - you might catch something delicious to bring back to the kitchen for dinner.

Birding
The estuary, wetlands and oceanside provide nesting and feeding grounds for thousands of birds. You'll be able to identify and observe more than 200 species that call Playa Viva home.

Hiking
Our 160-acre private reserve will have trails to take you from the beach, through dunes, into wetlands and up rocky knolls. The permaculture team is restoring a network of paths to allow visitors to fully enjoy the biodiversity that Playa Viva has to offer. We've also built relationships with other land owners to open up hiking trails nearby. Eventually there'll be a network of trails that take you from the mouth of the Juluchuca River all the way up the watershed.
